All signs point to badass with this release from Texas Headhunters. On name of the players alone, you know this self-titled release from the trio of Jesse Dayton, Ian Moore and Johnny Moeller will be great. Then, when you hear that first crack and croon, you for sure know the ears are in for greatness. 
 
There are so many riffs. Things kick off with big Blues in the Ian Moore penned “Pocket”, a cut that walks that line of Blues and Boogie Rock of the 1970’s. Texas Headhunters nod to the Rock of the South with the intro of “Maggie Went Back to Mineola” and blast of Prog-Boogie leads into “Everybody Loves You (When You’re Down)”. “Gun Barrell Boogie” is just that, “Kathleen” is a slowed-down Blues burner with a leaned-into guitar solo while they nod to all things that make The Blues great “Standing Around Corners”. A total hanging-out song. The band bang out a cut that serves as their anthem with “Headhunters Theme”, a three-minute guitar Funk. A in-house chant that hyping the band with a well-deserved shout out.

Album closer, “Burning’ Daylight”, is a short but sweet closer, instrumentally fun Funk that’s thrown down on the quick… no filler and all riffs. Texas Headhunters sound like they had as much fun making this record as you will have listening. (by Bryant Liggett)
