Taj Mahal adds a dose of the Blues to the Caribbean beats of “Talkin’ Blues” as his vocals rise and fall within the song like a cork bobbing on water. Over a rumbling rhythm that rattles and rolls, Taj Mahal points a finger declaring “It’s Your Voodoo Working” while the Phantom Blues Band bring a hint of Jazz to the bubbling beat in “You Put Your Whammy on Me”. The songs are a part of Time, the recent musical collection from Taj Mahal, who uses influences from his own six-decade career in the recording as he partners with The Phantom Blues Band. 
The melody is like a whisper for the Time title track, an unreleased song discovered in the catalog of Folk Soul singer/songwriter Bill Withers that was gifted to Taj Mahal. The horns bring a touch of uptown Saturday to the raucous rhythms shouting out for “Sweet Lorene” as a slow simmering barrelhouse Blues sways with the sweet promises of “Rowdy Blues”. Percolating percussion surrounds the story of the musical melting pot carousing in “Life of Love” as Taj Mahal sings the sad story of coming in second to the collection of 7” records spinning Rock’n’Roll gold for “Crazy About a Jukebox”. Time offers a guide for matters of the heart with “Wild About My Lovin’” and drifts on dreamscape melodies in “Ask Me ‘Bout Nothing (But the Blues)”.
