Sean McConnell (from the album SKIN

The title track opens SKIN, the latest release from Sean McConnell. For the songwriter, “Skin” embodies his goals for the album’s content as well as the realization that come as a gift of aging. The album is a mirror of his personal journey, and he shared that ’SKIN to me is kind of where I'm at on my journey with being comfortable in your skin, in your physical body. Divinity is in flesh and bone, not just in heaven somewhere, someday. Lyrically, the humanness of skin is obviously apparent, but I'm always attracted to this meeting of body and spirit, flesh and spirit’. The warm delivery of Sean’s vocal hands over the stories as believable; less verse and chorus, more a conversation between friends. The details of our daily lives are listed in “New Sons and Daughters” as Sean McConnell searches through the facts to find an answer for his dreams.

Twenty years of recording was just one area of the music business for Sean McConnell, the songwriter doing double duty in creating his own musical catalog while penning tunes as collaborator for artists such as Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, Hayes Carll, Best Coast, Rascal Flatts, Little Big Town, Michael Franti, Brothers Osborne, and many more. Admitting that its “Never Enough”, SKIN becomes a confessional for Sean McConnell as “Divinity” brings theology into the human body, using heart and head as manifestations of steeples and cathedrals while the story claims ‘the devil is my ego’, the fingers of a hand attempting to “squeeze the blood out of a rosary’. Sean McConnell is ‘shadowboxing with angels’ in “Older Now” while a hefty backbeat supports “Demolition Day” as SKIN follows ragged chord strums into the story of “The West Is Never Won”, slowly turns the rhythm wheel in “Glasgow Rain”, advising “Take It Easy, Darlin’, and ramping up the beat to head with a vengeance into “Southside of Forever”.
