Satya (from the album Yellow House

The music that surrounds Satya on her recent release, Yellow House, is steeped in musical magic. The soundtrack is a dreamscape that wraps around the strength of her vocals; weaving a seductive spell that draws you into each song, allowing listeners to feel as well as hear the words and music. Satya creates a space for our emotions. Yellow House collects songs that are alive, its stories staged on an ever-changing framework of disparate melodies. Her searches float on a determined groove sparkling with the reverbed conversation of guitar strings as a persistent, slowly-unraveling rhythm carries the confessions carved into “Fruits of My Labor”.

“Circles” exits on the ambient sounds of echoed electric guitar strings, guided by mesmerizing vocals until an off-kilter rhythm enters to support the journey in the tale. Her memories act as a muse for Satya in the story. The song, and all the tracks in Yellow House, were written in New Orleans when the San Francisco Bay-native spent time studying music in NOLA. She reflects on childhood trauma as her words champion the strength of the woman she has become. Touches of the Blues, Jazz, Folk, and World Music are brewed in the melting pot musical backing of the songs in Yellow House. Slow steps define the movement of “Heaven’s Cry” as “Seven” enters on a rattle of percussion that becomes a constant for the tune. Satya revisits a cut from a fellow Bay Area band when she covers Grateful Dead with “Box of Rain” before exiting Yellow House on a dreamscape of natural and echoed textures with “Cicadas”.
