Ron Pope has made a killer road album. American Man, American Music is the perfect playlist for a summer trip across the highways of America. Ron Pope sings about tragic, substance fueled lives while referencing classic Rock and lost loves, heartbreaking tales, and even a cut that is ripe for the low hanging fruit country fans. It’s a catchy record that will score your times cruising backroads. “I Gotta Change (Or I’m Gonna Die)” kicks the record off with a slow ballad about the many that were prescribed, and became addicted to, pain medication, however it is a song singing more on hope than hazard. “I Pray I’ll Be Seeing You Soon” dips into the slow Bluegrass ballad realm, “In the Morning with the Coffee On” is a somber tune ready for the early hours on the road, and “Klonopin Zombies” is an Alt Country weeper. Both “Nobody’s Gonna Make It Out Alive” and “The Queen of Fort Payne, Indiana” are both tuned into the left of the dial, or even major Country radio. Ron Pope closes the album with a sure-fire weeper in “Where You’re Kept”. This record is aptly titled in American Man, American Music as Ron Pope sings about the grit and glory of America, its tragedies and triumphs captured in a song.
