Cruising a desert highway, Randy Lee Riviere is behind the wheel for a tale told over a low-riding groove for “December 1980”. The song is part of Farmhand Blues, his recently released collection of cuts in the singer/songwriter’s passel of tunes. He blends Country Blues, using rhythms that course through the songs like driving on an open road and dusty tales of lives lived on the edge. A rumbling beat carries Randy Lee Riviere as he lays claim to the crown in “If I Were King” as Farmhand Bluesuses guitar strums to carve out a path for “Mother Lee” and hammers a Rock’n’Roll Honky Tonk beat in its title track. Heading “Downtown” on a cacophony of distorted chord slashes, Farmhand Blues kicks the doors down to the album with the rough-rhythms of the opening cut. The album admits to being “Cynical” over the crunch of guitar sonics and walks under the “Moonlight” on a rumble of rhythm. He visits “Alabama” with sharp-angled guitar blasts, admitting “You Ain’t No Loving Woman” as he ignores his own words, his heart falling deeper and deeper on a sluggish groove. Stomping footfalls define the walk down “Linden Lane” as Randy Lee Riviere laundry lists the downside of fun for “Big on a Bender” and bounces on the persistent beat of “Pecos”, exiting Farmhand Blues singing the praises of “Dovetail Joints” on molasse-slow rhythm.
