Kicking off a steadily ascending musical career in 2012, Parker Millsap has released a series of albums that have varied sonically yet remained true to his storyteller style of songwriting. Partnering with the Lockeland Strings, Parker Millsap goes back to his first release, with childhood Purcell, Oklahoma friend Mike Rose on bass, for the title track, “Palisade”. The recently released EP, Parker Millsap & Lockeland Strings EP is beautifully crafted, acoustic guitar notes sparkling against the cinematic strings that wrap around the collection’s four songs.
Lockeland Strings is a community arts organization with monthly showcases featuring local Nashville artists, the performers accompanied by the string quintet. Lockeland Strings has moved from house parties to studio sessions, much like the recent outing with Parker Millsap. In addition to “Palisade” the EP features a handful of other Millsap song creations. Somber sonic tones quiet to gently wrap around the small joys that are the muse for “The Day Feels New” while “Running on Time” backs the Oklahoma songman with percolating string plucks and swells. Closing out the four-song set, “Before the Curtain Closes” plays a waltz that gracefully spins and swirls. (by Danny McCloskey)
