Tapping into a world of influences (quite literally), Lily Vakili installs memories and observations from the diverse locales she has called home into her music. Born in Honduras, the places she has called home include Honduras, Florida, Thailand, Puerto Rico, and Iowa. On her recent E.P., Live Wire, Lily decided to have her touring band back her stories, heading into the studio immediately after completing their last tour. Live Wire puts Lily Vakili behind the microphone with her guitar alongside Eric Burns (guitar), Joseph Yount (drums), and Drew Hart (bass). Explaining the decision to record the E.P. live, Lily shared ‘what makes my music most compelling is when I perform it live with a band. This is the message audiences have been telling me for a long time, so I decided to try to capture that sound in an in-studio session recorded the way jazz and vocalist performances used to be made, with everyone in one room with no headphones, no click track - just like we would on stage.  It either works or it doesn’t, but when it does, it’s electric and authentic’.
 
The sound of Live Wire sizzles when Lily Vakili slinks into the recording on the seductive groove of “Anybody Knows”, strutting slowly on jangly guitar riffs for “Lake City Blues”, and brings the heat to a slow boil with the simmering rhythms of “Heart’s Afire”. Working in a collaboration with producer/engineer Reed Turchi as his Second Take Sound studios in NYC. Lily Vakili confesses “I’ve Been Hiding” on a gnarly beat and jams the pedal to the floor for the runaway Rock’n’Roll rhythms barreling across “Walking Sideways” before exiting the E.P. on the heartbeat hammer of “Had a Penny – Live Wire Version”.
