Quiet musical backing wraps around the lush vocals of Julian Taylor as he begins the song cycle on Pathways, his latest release, offering an audio shoulder to lean on with “Weighing Down”. The story offers a calm voice and comforting words as the lead track sets the standard for the album. The tone of the track matches the intentions that Canadian songman Julian Taylor brought to the recordings, sharing that ‘when you feel heavy, you’ve got to get things off your chest, and Pathways reflects the way I was feeling while I was writing it and making it. What any of us are going through at any particular time acts as a stamp, or an imprint, of what we’re battling and trying to heal within ourselves. I’ve been going through it myself — I’m still going through it — and I’m trying to work through a lot of the pain I’ve caused myself and others’.

Co-produced by Julian Taylor and Colin Linden (solo, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings), Pathwayswalks with a determined stride across “Sixth Line Road” as a gentle sway supports “Love Letters”. A purposeful willpower drifts on the dreamy rhythm of “See This Thing Through”  as the story chases bright lights. Co-producer Colin Linden urged Julian to ‘simplify’ creating a sound for the album that is ‘easy and less busy’. Over a whispered, persistent groove Julian Taylor offers personal experiences in “Ain’t Life Strange” while he moves across the title track with slow, regimented footsteps of rhythm as Pathways makes an exit with the cascading melodies on “Into the Waves”.
