John Batdorf from the album 60-Year-Old Groove

John Batdorf (from the album 60-Year-Old Groove available as a self-release) (by Danny McCloskey)
The addition in the album title tells a tale that John Batdorf’s voice never reveals. Beginning his love affair with music in 1964, John counts up to today, opening his latest album with the title track, “Sixty-Year-Old Groove”, with an electric guitar and a hearty beat assuring that listeners fall prey to the song’s promise, ‘c’mon, just sing along, you’ll feel brand new to a sixty year old groove’. In his 70’s, John Batdorf sings out like the proverbial bell, standing center stage as he has for several decades. His songs stay on the Folk tracks where his music had found a home, 60Year-Old Groove tenderly questions loss in “Always Remember”, seeks answers for the personal hurdles we all face daily with “Somewhere”, and makes a plea for common ground for “Love Believes in Us”.
John Batdorf shares the life of a seventy-year-old plus songwriter when he poses a query to himself, wondering “Why Did It Take So Long” as he hops on a train-track rhythm to claim the role of “Simple Man”. John Batdorf has the presence of a born Folk singer, happiest behind a guitar and singing his songs. The life of a songman is a challenge for those that love the man or woman behind the guitar, however. Addressing a story to longterm love, John Batdorf asks “Where Did I Go Right” while he sends out words of support in “All the Time You Need”, and rides a low rumble as he has an argument in his mind with “Nobody Sees Me”.
