Jesse Daniel (from the album Son of San Lorenzo

Jesse Daniel (from the album Son of the San Lorenzo available on a self-release) (by Danny McCloskey)

Keeping the banner of tradition held high Jesse Daniel enters his recent release, Son of the San Lorenzo, on a musical mission. The album title nods to the place he grew up, the San Lorenzo Valley, under the watchful eye of the Santa Cruz Mountains. More than just putting a geographical face on the beginnings of Jesse Daniel, the stories mirror the man. Tales of a younger man trying to break free by pushing every boundary and challenging any laws that got in his way as it traces the path that took Jesse into the true freedom, and salvation, offered by a life in music. Bordering his time on earth in song, Son of the San Lorenzo begins the journey with opening cut “Child is Born”, closing out the musical cycle, and exiting the album on the honky tonk beat of “The End”.

The Son of the San Lorenzo title track is a musical dose of California sunshine as Jesse Daniel walks through younger years before his ‘wild blood’ was the driving wheel as he admits ‘for better or worse, a blessing or curse, I’m a son of the San Lorenzo’. A gnarly guitar line snakes and wiggles to lead the way into “One’s Too Many (and a Thousand Ain’t Enough)” while campfire chords back the story of “Jodi”, a sturdy backbeat driving across the tale in “The Ballad of Love Creek”, and caffeinated acoustic chords bringing back memories of a “Mountain Home”. A Rock’n’Roll snarl leads the charge into “Crankster” while Charles Wesley Godwin shares the microphone for “Time Well Spent for a Man” and Jesse Daniel makes promises to the future in “My Time is Gonna Come”.
