Jenny Burtis (from the album Woodbird

Jenny Burtis (from the album Woodbird available as a self-release) (by Danny McCloskey)
Determined chord strums accompany Jenny Burtis as she draws a line in a song with “I Won’t Chase You Down”, the opening cut on Woodbird, her recent release. One lone love song graces Woodbird when Jenny Burtis rewrites the story of Orpheus with “My Eurydice” while she lays out the items in a universal plus column on “Never Flown So Lonesome” as “The Burning” details an inward journey with a wood-bird as a companion.  Determined strums stride confidently into “Kansas City 64” as the story walks the streets of a Saturday night challenging the echoes of a late-night saxophone to accent to the reverie. Jenny Burtis dips her pen into the emotions of the world, the songs of Woodbird reflecting fellow humans staying the course and persevering.
Woodbird is the debut album from Jenny Burtis, its songs thirty-years in a music-making incubator. She collected her songs, sidelining her own career while handling booking for other musicians, returning to her native New England to revisit her songwriting and performing.  As a piano plays marching chords as a foundation for the betrayal climbing “The Hill” while “The Sage” rides on a dreamscape melody. A bright bounce tells the tale of the challenges of loving a mischievous pooch in “I Know That Dog” as Woodbird delivers tough news to a friend in “I Can’t hear It Anymore”, the words surrounded by the sparkle of finger-picked guitar notes and a sturdy bass thump. The drumbeat mimics the slap of tires as newlyweds cross the Golden Gate Bridge with “Red Cadillac” as whispered notes surround the story of “Future Homemakers of America”. (by Danny McCloskey)
