A mixture of musical sounds accompanies Jammy Man when they deliver the band’s latest release, Tunes. A hefty beat carries Jammy Man “Up to the Stars”, while they roll “Loaded Dice (Live)” on a Country Rock groove, float on a dreamscape melody to begin the story song recollections in “Memories of Love”, and tend “Garden” on a front-porch Country Folk jam. Produced by Paul Trunko, Tunes claims a collection of musicians that include two brothers at the heart of the group, Jammy Man and Tumbly Tumbler, and is filled out with Ron the Bear (drums, mandolin), Sadie (piano), and Rascal E. Raccoon (bass/vocals). A second line rhythm dances underneath “Can’t Hideaway (Live)” that spreads out in a musical montage of playing in the vein of Grateful Dead. Shuffling rhythms carry “Singing Birds” as “Mind” delivers its experiential advice over steadfast strums. “Jump the Fence” dips and dives on a Jazz-flavored Blues groove while “Nightglow” basks in softly delivered instrumentation. Jammy Man turns a spinning wheel of sounds on Tunes, opening the collection with a toe-tapping take on The Box Tops (and Joe Cocker) hit “The Letter” and plugs the guitar in to deliver a gloriously distorted version of “America, My Country ‘Tis of Thee” to match our turbulent times.
