There are many apt descriptors that define the sound of Jackson and the Janks. Rock’n’Roll, Rhythm & Blues, or this critics favorite, Garage Gospel. Trim the verbal fat and call it ‘good time music’ and we’ll get on with tapping our toes and bobbing our heads to the band’s recent releaser, the fabulous Write it Down.
An animated saxophone drives the intro to “The Kick”, a cut with a sweet lazy groove which quickly rolls into “Beats Me”, the first of many cuts ripe for pulling your partner close for a mellow move around the dancefloor. “Windowsill” does some time travel as its sound is pulled straight from 1957. “I Don’t Give Any” is a bouncer and “Riding on a Smile” is an instrumental ripe to score a modern-day surf or skate session film.
This is raw, old school, lightly-produced Rock’n’Roll. Sounds reminiscent of what Wolfman Jack or Alan Freed was cueing up on a turntable decades ago. But with the date of 2025, it gives music lovers of today a taste of what was cool back then, and it’s ready to score a juke-joint, roadhouse, or sock hop while pulling a handful of wallflowers out to the dance floor.
