Iron & Wine is the name Sam Beam uses as a delivery vehicle for the Lo-Fi Indie Folk that the he has brought to the world beginning with his 2002 debut, The Creek Drank the Cradle. While there is a fragility to the sound of his songs, Iron & Wine consistently offers sturdy words and music over the course of his thirteen studio releases, a handful of archival albums, soundtracks, and live albums. His recent release, Hen’s Teeth, stays true to the intentions that Sam Beam set as goals when he choose to wear the Iron & Wine skin for a worldwide musical marketplace. His voice rises up and remains in place when he tells the story of “Dates and Dead People”; Hen’s Teeth hushes the background playing of the song speak with a whisper to let the clear voice of Iron & Wine rise up and scratch at the sky. Raised in South Carolina, Sam Beam pursued a career in film with studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and Florida State University film school. He was working on a film when he stumbled across the phrase Beef Iron & Wine that described a dietary supplement. As he pursued a life in film, he kept writing songs. Partnering with Indie stalwart label Sub Pop Records, Iron & Wine began releasing albums, finding a solid footing with his 2004 full-length album, Our Endless Numbered Days. On Hen’s Teeth, Iron & Wine welcomes the harmonic convergence of three equally stellar vocals when I’m With Her join in for two tracks on the album, “Wait Up” and “Robin’s Egg”. Sonics that appear with the quiet of a snowfall back him in “Grace Notes” as a flurry of string notes sparkle under the moonlight of “In Your Ocean”. Hen’s Teeth tells the tale of “Defiance, Ohio” and tenderly picks out acoustic notes as a foundation for “Paper and Stone”. Iron & Wine taps out a rhythm for the lyrical flow of “Singing Saw” as he cruises on the fast-track beat of “Roses” before exiting the album on the swaying reveries of “Half Measures” (by Danny McCloskey) Listen and buy the music of Iron & Wine from AMAZON Head over to the Iron & Wine website for more information The Blog Tags widget will appear here on the published site.
