MC Taylor has mastered the art of creating mid-tempo Pop. Add in touches of twang growing in his heady ballads. His latest release as Hiss Golden Messenger, I’m People, is well-crafted and executed, a hard to resist offering of sounds. 
I’m People opens with the uber-catchy “In the Middle of It”, a roll one for the road groover where the band skyrockets into Cosmic Country territory with Psychedelic guitar fills in perfect placement, and the Cosmic Country turns to Soulful Folk Rock on the horn heavy “Who You Gonna Run To” as the backing vocals push the cut into Gospel territory.
Hiss Golden Messenger delivers “Mercy Avenue” as a heavy ballad of beautiful reality, a cut that pulls lines out of a universal past, sung for anyone that’s had an upbringing stacked with friends, family, and the reality that comes with life well-lived. Hiss Golden Messenger knows we’re all ‘soldiers on Mercy Avenue’ while “Last Orders” comes with a slight, yet thick, chug in its rhythm, the firmness of the melody featuring more Gospel vocals along with a quiet bar-room piano. “Heavy World” drifts around lazy in Country Blues, and the closer, “Depends on the River”, is soft and beautiful; a cut that’s ripe for heavy thought, a loving slow dance, and perhaps a good cry.
Musically, I’m People is cued up for those ready for a quiet moment in the day, Sunday morning listen, or a dark drive into the night. There’s also a mysterious ambiguity to the record, a piece of art offering avenues of interpretation. (by Bryant Liggett)
