Partnering two legendary Bluesmen, Bluesland Theme Park merges the slide guitar magic of Watermelon Slim with the exotic Blues of HeavyDrunk. Not surprisingly, the album opens with a theme on the first cut title track with “Bluesland Theme Park” offering a raucous invitation to strap in and take a ride. The album is packed with horns, powerful riffs, mighty grooves, tender thoughts, and observations on the life in the Blues. HeavyDrunk and Watermelon Slim bring personal history into the song selection with a traveling tune, “Road Food & Cheap Motels”. A sluggish Blues crawl defines the rhythm in “Better Worser Too” as a bright melody lights up the story of “Watermelon Girl” (no relation to Watermelon Slim) and the sound of “Church Bells (Little Zion)” echo across The Delta on a marching beat. The two men playing the Blues for Bluesland Theme Park temper their trade on stage with day gigs; HeavyDrunk (Rob Robinson) spending many years in the BBQ pit, claiming to have smoked of 700,000 pounds of beef. Watermelon Slim (William P. Homans III) has worked numerous jobs when not playing guitar, and still washes dishes at The Bluesberry in Clarksdale, Mississippi. HeavyDrunk and Watermelon Slim hop on board a sea shanty bound for “Australia” as the pair, backed by the Soul/Blues sound of the HeavyDrunk band, sip some “New Wine” while they show their heart with the soft shuffle of “You Make Me Want To”. Bluesland Theme Park plays host to two versions of “Little Bighorn”, one with a full band backing and the second take with a slide guitar wrapping around the tale while HeavyDrunk and Watermleon Slim exit the album on Old School Soul music with “Fresh”.
