Rock’n’Roll is all encompassing. The recent release from Handsome Jack, Barnburner! fits every bill.

That swampy Boogie kicks right out of the gate with the title track, a party cut that has a solid bounce, the rhythms rolling right into “Tonight We Ride”. Close to the Canadian border, Rockport is awfully far from the Memphis gateway to the South but the trio nails the North Mississippi groove-Blues in Tony Joe White’s “Polk Salad Annie” and “Do It! To It!”. “Polly Molly” is channels a Buddy Guy vibe, “Let’s Go Downtown” is ripe for a juke joint party, and the album closer, “Ghost Woman”, finds Handsome Jack digging into Psychedelic Blues territory as they deliver a cut that’s both lazy and trippy. 
 
Had this record dropped 60 years ago it for sure would have made it into the hands of the Keith Richard’s and Jeff Beck’s of the day; its tomorrow-leaning soundtrack of Classic Rock arrives in the form of a good time dance record that’s both Old-School Blues and futuristic Roots Rock. It’s gloriously raw and rough around the edges, what one wants when seeking Blues-influenced Rock music delivered with a bit of Boogie. (by Bryant Liggett)
