The caffeinated runaway beat is an undertow in “Hearty Party”, the opening cut on the recent release from Greasy Dashiki, Good and Greasy. A wandering rhythmic backbeat grounds “All in My Mind”, immediately allowing electric guitar notes to flicker around the natural groove of the cut. Diversity is the norm for the tracks on Good and Greasy, its songs a spinning wheel of Roots Rock’n’Roll that shimmies, shakes, and shouts out to a god of raggedy glory. Stretching out the soundscape of “Taxim/Red-Headed Art Major”, Greasy Dashiki slide between musical backings in the melodies of the track, moving from Eastern textures, deep South grooves, and breezy Caribbean rhythms Strutting to a Reggae groove, Greasy Dashiki make a vow in “On High” as they follow a assured drum beat with a wriggling guitar lead when Good and Greasy cruises on a slow-as-molasses swamp groove underneath “I Can’t Wait”. Confidence is in the steps and the words that drive “Not Today” as Good and Greasy psychedelisizes a lack of stash in “Not Haffi Dread (High and Dry)” as it grooves to the Rock’n’Soul of “Sugar is Sugar”. A classic Rock’n’Roll backbeat hammers a path for “Circle Up” as a mighty funk lays down tracks in “Ross the Train” while Greasy Dashiki ‘pick up the pen to write another sad song’ when they exit Good and Greasy with Ska beliefs on full display for “It Stays”.
