This is all Grant Langston. Despite the leaked cuts from Langston’s latest in aLAbama onto various streaming services (currently causing product theft issues) while crediting the tunes to random names, aLAbama is all Langston. And it is great. Call it Country with a heavy inflection of Roots Pop, aLAbama is loaded with claws that will dig in deep. 
The album opens with “This Old Truck”, a bouncy homage to a reliable ride, with the sway and an overall great musical vibe continuing into “How Much Do You Want?”. “Jailbird” is a fun road song that references rows of corn and a ‘12-pack of Shiner’ while reminding us a ‘jailbird never flies’. The tune showcases Grant Langston giving his Bluegrass festival best while “Pure Grain Guarantee”, featuring The HawtThorns, treads into Blues territory. “As Is Sale” is solid Country and Roots Rock with great pickin’. Every package needs a ballad, and that comes with “Sing Along” and “This Heavy Load”.
At a 28-minute timecode, aLAbama may seem a tad short but Grant Langston packs a lot into a few minutes. It is a great record to represent sunny Southern California, and the Roots of Cosmic Country. For every bit of subtle twang there’s a packed punch of bright Pop, a great combination of rural Roots and Power Pop. (by Bryant Liggett)
