The way our lives unfold, how to deal directly with love and loss, happiness and sorrow, are the topics for Almost Home, the recent release from Ghost Hounds. The band wrap the stories in a perfect blend of Country Soul as they explore the personal lives of a blue-collar couple holding tight as they navigate the first touch of love and embrace the life they are building together as they eventually watch their connection fray and then fade as time marches on towards the moment when hearts drift apart. The album was largely written by Thomas Tull before the band came together in the studio. Once together, the band collaborated to fully bring the tracks to life. Ghost Hounds (SAVNT on vocals, Tyler Chiarelli (Florida Georgia Line) on guitar, Kristin Weber (Margo Price, Dolly Parton) on fiddle, Joe Munroe on keyboards, Bennett Miller on bass, Sydney Driver on drums, and Thomas Tull on guitar) worked out the instrumentation underneath the stories. A cowbell calls the song cycle into line when it starts off opening cut, “She Runs Hot”. Ghost Hounds are telling tales, asking questions of a hard-heart bearing “Broken Roses”, deciding on the “Long Way Around” as they weigh choices in an attempt to find answers, and wondering ‘do you know how much you’re missing’ when the find themselves “Past the Point of No Return”. Almost Home admits to being “Lonely Last Night” and it digs “Down in the Dark” to confess ‘there ain’t no freedom when you ain’t free’. Ghost Hounds welcome Lainey Wilson in to share vocals on “Before You Leave” while they exit Almost Home with a cover of Patty Griffin’s “Long Ride Home”, with Patty guesting on the cut.
