Galactic and Irma Thomas (from the album Audience With the Queen available on Tchoup-Zilla Records/Thirty Tigers) (by Danny McCloskey)
Opening the Galactic and Irma Thomas joint project, “How Glad I Am” is an ambient soundscape that drifts into their release, Audience with the Queen, like a Mississippi River-born mist moving through
For more information, please visit the Galactic website the French Quarter. New Orleans is homebase for both artists, Galactic claiming three decades as a cornerstone for musical diversity in the City of Dreams. Irma Thomas ascending the R&B throne in 1960 with the relationship burn single, “You Can Have My Husband (But Please Don’t Take My Man)”. In a city where the music never sleeps, both Galactic and Irma Thomas have reigned supreme, Audience with the Queen a testament to their deserved crowns.
Lying claim to her chosen profession, Irma Thomas states ‘I still got a love affair with the sound of music in the air’ in “Where I Belong” as she puts out her resume with pride; ‘spent my lifetime out on the road, you wouldn’t believe the things I’ve seen and I forgot more than you know’. Brewing a blend of Soul and Funk, Galactic are a non-stop rhythm machine on Audience with the Queen. Addressing the notion that ‘things will get better’, “People” takes aim at the future by recalling personal pasts while “Peace in My Heart” offers necessary advice as it encourages to ‘enjoy the ride’. A mighty backbeat supports “Lady Liberty” when its words propose the understanding that laws are not meant for everyone as it urges all humanity to take charge of their own lives and be the change you are looking for in others. The heart becomes a vehicle for those changes when Galactic and Irma Thomas promise that “Love is Gonna Find a Way” as Audience with the Queen closes out the album with wish riding a funky groove in “Be Your Lady”.
