A musical collective hosting five musician songwriters (Neale Eckstein, Jagoda, Matt Nakoa, Tom Prasada-Rao, Eric Schwartz), Fox Run Five offers a new release, Holding Out Hope. All of the members record at Fox Run Studio, and the album is a collection of unreleased cuts from the band, the release honoring member Tom Prasada-Rao, who passed away. The instruments and vocal are delivered in a near-whisper when Fox Run Five open Holding Out Hope with “A Villenelle for Angeline”. A Jazz-dosed rhythm percolates underneath “I’ve Got Faith in You” as bright chords clear a path into “Paradise” while slowly plucked notes educate on matters of the heart for “Don’t Wait”. A slow trudge hears the story in “One Foot Out the Door, and the Holding Out Hope title track relies on Folk music to deliver its wishes. Gypsy Jazz plays a tune with “Rules of the Dance” while determined rhythms are a platform for the travels in “The Ballad of Smokey Evans” as “Take Your Time” unravels on a smooth groove. Holding Out Hope shuffles alongside the chord strums of “To Get Back to You” and picks up the pace for “Sweet St. Peter” while Fox Run Five lists “Desperate Pleasures” on as assured strut. They confess “I Don’t Know” on a late-night noir rhythm and describe a moment in the lives of Fox Run Five with “How We Say Goodbye”, the last track the band recorded together, penned as a farewell to Tom Prasada-Rao three weeks before his passing.
