It’s all in a name, and Fantastic Cat are just that. Fantastic. With Pop sensibilities and a big Rock mindset, their latest, Cat Out of Hell, delivers a load of hooks that stick to your head and heart; the songs thick with melody and even shinier with pearls of lyrical wisdom that shine. Quick and quirky little snapshots, delivered like they’re coming from that friend offering advice at every turn. It may not be the best guidance, but it is certainly colorful.
The songs on Cat Out of Hell are so good! There’s the anthemic banger of an opener in “Donnie Takes the Bus”, a cut that’s ripe for night on a heavy drunk or morning meeting sober singalong. There is a solid rhythm underneath “The Waiting Room”. The Pop bounce continues, rolling right into “Elevator” while “How’s That
Working Out for You” delivers an ‘I told you so vibe’ that lives in the lyrics (harkening back to the aforementioned colorful effort of advice). “I Spoke to God a Lot Last Year” is like a Psychedelic Gospel ballad, “No Goddamn Way” is an emotional heart-tugger not quite ready for weeping alone, and the album closer, “Nobody Better”, is the ballad that’s the heavy, lonely weeper.

In short, Cat Out of Hell is an amazing record, and rumors roll that Fantastic Cat is a no-miss show. These songs are certainly standards in their setlist, and the band are ready for both the rowdy and utmost attention respect they deserve. (by Bryant Liggett)
