Fancy Hagood contemporizes life in 2024 with a Country soundtrack that blends 1970’s chart topper styles with the Singer/Songwriter observations that gave those songs their worth. The scrutiny that the stories receive are visions from the eyes of Fancy Hagood. The words and music on his recent release, American Spirit, are personal. The tales are captured like the lens of a camera. Opening the song roster Fancy Hagood directs a question at a universal decision process, asking are we “Ever Really Ready”, looking for an answer as the starting bell for love begins its cycles. “Navy Blue” drifts on a dreamscape melody while “Losing Game” faces unwelcome realities and “Good Grief” sings a song that brings him to his knees amid the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park. The stories are connected by the heart swells and slumps of Fancy Hagood as he bares his soul with the sugar-sweet sound of his voice. Fancy Hagood did double duty, adding a check mark to the lifelong dream of singing with Michelle Branch and having her duet on “Isn’t That Life” from American Spirit (his second album release). Lots of friends supported the album with John Osborne (The Brothers Osborne, Asley McBryde) Jarrad K (Ruston Kelly) and Jeremy Luttio (Joy Oladokun) producing as Nickel Creek’s Sean and Sara Watkins lend vocals. Fancy Hagood’s career is a testament to following your heart, believing in intuition, and the willingness to bust through any wall that feels the need to be in your way. Arriving in Nashville as an openly gay artist, Fancy Hagood didn’t fit. Duets with Kacey Musgraves and Orville Peck, as well as artist support shout outs from Brandy Carlisle and Elton John, not fitting is exactly where Fancy Hagood needed to be. A Nashville tale that trails the course of the singer’s adventures in the story of “Fly Away” and “The Chase” (backed by the Watkins Family Hour) sets it sights on a love match as American Spirit follows a warbling fiddle into “Savior Self” while Fancy Hagood walks a trip-hammer beat across “Soulmates”.
