Effie Zilch is not one person. The name claimed for the duo of Steve Wyreman and Evanne Barcenas, the Bay area musicians behind the laid-back sounds that come via the release Mutlitudes, a cool and casual release of R&B and groove-heavy Soul. Noted as an EP, it’s a thick extended play clocking in at seven songs with no filler.
The opener in “Prayin’ Amos” kicks the album off with a solid groove, Barcena’s vocals delivered soft and sultry while subtle fills come via guitar and keys while her vocals are casual and cool on “Taking Me Over”, the solo voices making way for thick harmonies, heavy organ, and great guitar fills. Effie Zilch pick it up for the bouncy and fun “Carousel” where they hint at a juke joint jump delivering a solid boogie cut. The EP wraps with “Unsung Pages”, a heavy closer where Evanne Barcenas' vocals once again shine amidst a dreamy melody.
Steve Wyreman comes with a stacked resume from spending time playing with heavy hitters. While Barcenas hasn’t run with a crowd like her partner, music for her is a passion project. That partnership, driven from a solid love of music, paired with that same passion for the production along with experience, and you’ve got a killer project.
