Drew Holcomb and Ellie Holcomb (from the album Memory Bank

Are Drew and Ellie Holcomb Americana’s coziest couple? It could be convincingly argued that indeed they are. And while it’s relatively rare to find them creating an album in tandem — Drew is generally found at the helm of The Neighbors while Ellie mostly pursues her own individual projects — Memory Bank sounds like a love story set to song. Tracks such as the Bluesy yet breezy “Rain or Shine”, the celebratory sing-along “Never Gonna Let You Go”, the sassy sashay of “You Drive Me Crazy”, the jubilant “Bones”, and the sweetly serendipitous “We Can Go Dancing” express the obvious infatuation they share, while leaving little doubt that theirs is a fairytale relationship that most folks might envy.

‘We get older, we get better’ they coo on the aforementioned “Never Gonna Let You Go”; ‘I hope we all grow old together’. While those sweet sentiments fill practically every verse, the cuddly photos that adorn the back of the sleeve affirm the fact that this pair are completely committed to one another. Even the drudgery of domesticity becomes something to sing about.

In truth, the Holcomb’s ability to build on a bond ought to come as no surprise. Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors effectively projected a populist perspective courtesy of their number one Americana anthem “Find Your People” and the effortlessly engaging ode to the Volunteer State they titled “Tennessee”. So too, Ellie’s solo career has consistently been marked by an upward glance and a heavenly stance, a status affirmed by the fact she’s won four Dove Awards, achieved two Top 10 singles, and authored a best-selling spiritual tome.

Clearly, these two never come up short as far as being able to divvy out devotion or simply sharing optimism and enjoyment. In this particular case, it’s apparent there’s plenty of happy memories that are still being made.
