Devon Allman (from the album The Blues Summit

Devon Allman (from the album The Blues Summit available on Ruf Records) (by Danny McCloskey)
The passion behind The Blues Summit is clear in a statement from the man whose name is on the album cover when Devon Allman shares ‘making this album with these legends and finally having my touring band be on record is just a grand slam for me musically. Also, returning to Ruf Records as I expand my European touring is an important move for me. I look forward to playing these songs on stage worldwide over the next 12 month’s’. His recent release, The Blues Summit, welcomes marquee headliners into the release such as Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Robert Randolph, Sierra Green, Jimmy Hall, and Larry McCray are part of the A-list talent backed by Devon Allman’s touring band. The Blues has always been a family tradition, and Devon Allman (song of Gregg Allman) has fit into the foundational influences, making the genre a key element in his own career.
He delivers a shout-out to the Blues that he champions in “Blues is a Feeling” as he experiences the burn of road travel, wishing for a more comfortable place to shelter with “Runners in the Night” (joined by Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram). A chorus of voices encourages moving feet in “Get Greasy With It” cruising on a funky groove as determined drum beats push the rhythms in “After You” while a late-night noir beat tracks the instrumental of “Midnight Lake Erie”. Larry McCray is on board to join the band for the Soul strut of “Hands and Knees” as Sierra Green steps up to the microphone for the smoldering “Real Love”. Robert Randolph, along with Jimmy Hall help Devon Allman put “Peace to the World” on a wish list. Jimmy Hall comes back into the album when The Blues Summit covers the Willie Dixon tune (and Koko Taylor hit) “Wang Dang Doodle” as Devon Allman offers a true-to-source rendition of the Jimi Hendrix cut “Little Wing”.
