Delta Stardust (from the album Climb Mystic Mountain

Delta Stardust (from the album Climb Mystic Mountain available on Delta Stardust/Robot Distro/Golden Robot Entertainment Group) (by Danny McCloskey)
The band refer to their sound as Roots Psychedelic. That fits, and to take the music of Delta Stardust further back to origins, the tracks collected on the recent release, Climb Mystic Mountain, are the soundtrack to a Hootenanny. By definition, a Hootenanny was a gathering of musicians playing, with some dancing included. There is a raggedy rhythm in “Flowers & Herbs” that is gloriously accented by a chorus of voices and bright, sparkling playing primed to move dancing feet or, at the very least, tapping toes. “Dragonfly” seems to float on an ethereal melody that is a match for words that combine the mystical with magical to fully immerse in the album’s cosmic connection.
Rising above the earth on gypsy Jazz rhythms, “Mystic Mountain” fleshes out the destination in the album title as “Wachu Smokin” shuffles on a wobbly groove while “Top of the Hill” walks on slowly trudging footsteps and “Winding Our Way” finds a way on a revolving patter of percussion. Beginning as a studio project that sought to combine electric and acoustic instruments in an earthbound alchemy, Climb Mystic Mountain showcases a band that inhabits a musical environment branded by songs with a shifting soundtrack of diverse rhythms and rhymes. Addressing the marketing of a human population, “T.V.God” bows down with a wry sense of humor as Delta Stardust strips back the playing to let a message of comfort wrap around the tale of “It’s Okay” as they wander across a dusty beat to introduce “New Mexico Man”. Climb Mystic Mountain dances in place for the confessions in “Too High to Reply”.
