Admitting that there are defined routes, Della Mae find a path on “My Own Highway”, wondering if they could go back in time to speak to their younger selves, or if the young girl would even listen. The band offers a “Lifeline” for hearts in freefall, slowing the natural groove in their music to ask “What You’re Looking For”, confessing “I Compare Everyone to You”, and pondering lineage with “Family Tree”. The songs and other like-minded observances are collected on Magic Accident, the latest release from Della Mae. The four women of Della Mae (Celia Woodsmith – guitar, vocals, Kimber Ludiker (fiddle), Avril Smith (guitar), Vickie Vaughn (upright bass) hail from different locations, much like the musical influences they use to soundtrack the songs of Magic Accident. Voices interlock to brand the message of “Out Run ‘Em” while nature is the muse for “Little Bird”. Magic Accident opens its song cycle with the title track, the story layering today over the desires of the past while Della Mae exit the album admitting “Takes All Kinds”, the power of their harmonic voices rising up in acapella salvational glory.
