The message is true within the Gospel of the Dedicated Men of Zion. The vehicle that carries the spiritual words into the songs on Coming Up Through the Years is 100% pure Southern Rock’n’Soul. Mining the sound of Sweet Soul Music, Dedicated Men of Zion point to an inner-glow for the proud claims of “Something Within Me” as a hammering drum beat leads the way across “Tone Them Bells” and a righteous groove wraps around the salvational story in “I Don’t Know Why”. The band (Anthony “Amp” Daniels, Antwan Daniels, Marcus Suggs, Tyjon Harris) trace lineage through both blood and marriage to a legacy of Gospel performers such as Glorifying Vine Sisters and Faith & Harmony as well as ties to visionary luthier and artist, Freeman Vines (Hanging Tree Guitars).

Produced by Jimbo Mathus (solo, Squirrel Nut Zippers) and Bruce Dickinson (Fat Possum Records, Big Mess Records, Bible & Tire Records), the songs in Coming Up Through the Years were written by Jimbo Mathus, and the musical backing provided by the diverse stylings of a group of Mississippi musicians, Creatures of the Southern Wild. The groove is infectious when Dedicated Men of Zion Rock’n’Roll across “What You Gonna Do” while the rhythms become a seductive undertow that captures dancing feet and swaying hips in “Nobody’s Fault”. A thick bass line guides the salvational march of “No Ways Tired” as a mighty groove waves a banner for “Victory” while Dedicated Men of Zion board the funky train to shout out their history in the Coming Up Through the Years title track.
