A center-stone of LA’s Roots music scene, David Serby delivers Low Hanging Stars. The sound vintage Cosmic Country drifts across Low Hanging Stars to back his stories; tales that reflect the life that passes us by as much as the face that looks back from the mirror. A Tex Mex beat supports the tale in “Lonely Motel Days” while a caffeinated rhythm propels the confessions of “I Bought the Ring” as an old flame still burns bright in “She Ain’t Changed At All”. David Serby strums a sway to back the sunlight creeping in for “Another Chance to Dream” and a revs the beat to turn the wheels underneath “Trying to Get to Encinitas”. Low Hanging Stars is a honky tonk jukebox full of stories and songs that speak like an old friend sharing secrets at the bar and solving the world’s problems. The release is album number six for the singer/songwriter, though is has been ten years in between recordings. Where did the time go? Who is to say, however David Serby has decided opinions, recalling that ‘a lot has happened in that time, but I haven’t really gone anywhere. That’s the struggle and the beauty. Figuring out how to fight through life’s roadblocks and still keep creating…losing loved ones, jobs, insecurity, moving, illness, money, pandemics…I’d say figuring out how to navigate life is how I got comfortable with not going anywhere and that’s where I am today’. Low Hanging Stars gallops into being when a drumbeat becomes the starting pistol for the title track tale as it traces the up-and-down roller coaster lives of guitar players. A fork in the road leads to a decision in “Why Leave Los Angeles” as an audio sign reads “The Jukebox is Broken”. Kicking off the album on the fast track, David Serby spins a goodbye that leaves little for the singer, opening the doors of Low Hanging Stars with “Fishtail Cadillac” and exiting the album with questions for “Is It Lonely in Here”.
