The title track is a slow trudge as Danni Nicholls puts the pieces of a shattered heart back together with determination in “Making Moves”. With a voice that has the unique ability of affixing emotion to every word, Danni Nicholls holds the stories up like torches leading a way home in Making Moves. Rushed guitar strums keep the rhythm as she promises “I’ll Carry On” while “Free Wheel” rolls on rumbling rhythms as memories have a For Sale sign on front lawn. Making Moves slows the beat to a seductive groove to confess “I Want You” and ‘dances to a summer song’ in the tumultuous tale of “Honey”.
Produced by Sarah Peacock, Making Moves helped Danni Nicholls find healing. She recalls that ‘after the last several years of upheaval, uncertainty, loss, and heartache, Making Moves feels like the grounding, healing force I desperately need. When I hear these songs now, I’m reminded how far I’ve come, how much I’ve grown and how resilient I am. I’m so proud of and grateful for this collection of songs and hope it reminds people of their own strength too’.
Thoughtful rhythms mark out the steps that carry Making Moves out of “The Wreckage”, capturing a moment in “Four Frames” as a heartbeat thump drives “Love is Letting Go” before Danni Nicholls exits the album making the last song, “Well Enough Alone”, an accounting of her inner-thoughts.
