If you are looking for musical sources to describe the background influences for multi-hyphenate music man Daniel Romano, look to his roots. The branches of the family tree that he could reach at a young age were his Folk musician parents and grandparents with a love for Classic Country. The two genres are at the heart of Daniel’s music; however, the former child came of age with a wider range of styles in his wardrobe. Under the title of Daniel Romano’s Outfit, the band deliver a recent release, Preservers of the Pearl, with Folk and Country represented in a soundtrack of whirling Psychedelia played out over a soundscape of O.G. Rock’n’Roll. The beat is an undertow when the band set the controls for “Autopoiet” as Preservers of the Pearl trip lightly on notes flickering like a night sky when they wander into “Play with the Wild”. Daneil Romano engages in “Phantasy” against a get-out-my-way beat and controls a cacophony of instrumentation when he channels the title track with a Beatles-esque, Tom Petty-styled, sound. Opening with the gentle sway of a chamber music string section, Daniel Romano’s Outfit begin the song cycle of the album with “Preservers Theme”. Following the soft musical soliloquy, Preservers of the Pearl roars into life with “Unseeable Root”, quieting to discuss “Soft Vigilance” on a dreamily melodic soundtrack. Revolving rhythms twirl around “Abstract Stone” while they scratch out guitar chords to carve a path over the frenetic groove that courses through “Firebreather”. 1970’s Country Rock time travels into “The One / The Many” as determined steps lead the way across “Secret of the Eye”. Offering a resume on a runaway beat, Preservers of the Pearl makes promises with “Harmless” as Carson Mahone joins Daniel Romano’s Outfit on the confident groove of “Cardinal Star” while the band exit the album on the vintage sound of Old School Country in “Metanoia.
