As the album title suggests, Curtis Salgado is an artist primed to wear the mantle of legacy. His recent release, Legacy Rewind – Live in ’25, is an audio commendation for a man whose career stretches back to the 1970’s. Born in Eugene, Oregon, Curtis Salgado was in his 20’s when he became vocalist/harmonica player for The Nighthawks, followed by co-leader of the Robert Cray Band. A chance meeting in 1977 led to a long-time friendship with comedian John Belushi. The Saturday Night Live veteran and Blues Brother used the stories he soaked up from the life of Curtis Salgado as a base for developing his character Joliet Jake Blues, first as an SNL skit, then on into a major motion picture.
Many years have coursed underneath the life of Curtis Salgado since his early days of playing the Blues, yet the live performance captured on April 5 2025 at The Triple Door in Seatle, Washingtonshows little wear or tear on the man’s music. A drum beat begins the song cycle when Curtis Salgado opens the show encouraging the crowd to “Sing My Song”. Collecting cuts from a career spanning five decades, Legacy Rewind – Live in ’25 hits a “Count of Three” as he barrels across a promise of the heart, the album making a “Clean Getaway” on a crawling late-night Blues noir tune. 
Curtis Salgado cruises in with a barrage of uptown Saturday night horns and a mighty beat to send out a request for help in “Sweet Jesus Buddha the Doctor” as he heads down to church with his mother’s words playing in his head for “Woman or the Blues”, shrugging on the bounce of a beat to declare “Money Must Think I’m Dead”. The groove is infectious when Legacy Rewind barrels into a cover of Little Richard’s “Don’t Want to Discuss It” as Curtis Salgado cruises on a slow Blues crawl to count “20 Years of B.B.
