How can you not love The Cordovas? They’re everything great about American Roots music. From their hippie leanings to their take on Cosmic Country, any fan that digs into the vintage sound of Summer of Love to the Gram Parsons-inspired Cosmic American Music should be right up in their sound, a mood that is dreamily Psychedelic in their latest release, Back to Life. In addition to the aforementioned influences, they also connect the dots between Roots Rock and Roots Soul, R&B, and hook-heavy Pop.
 
Cordovas even dance around good time, laid back vibes with the soulful “Higher Every Time” album opener, a dreamy cut with drifting guitar. “Step Outside” is a bouncer that has a subtle Pop vibe and is ripe for a singalong. The Back to Life title track is harmony-heavy and feel good groovy while “Sunset” is a Rock-solid ballad with gentle harmonies. “Wings”, which features Kamasi Washington, is Psychedelic Soul, “Mexico Home” is ready for your slow two-stepping, and “Black Sand” is a mellow, Country Pop closer.
Cordovas hint at Jam Band territory but reel things in before they drift too far into the genre. A wonderful taste of Country, Roots, and soulful Rock, driven by a band soundtracked with twang, tight harmonies, and killer pedal steel. The clincher on its goodness is its good time vibe.
