The songs of CJ Hooper are brewed in a melting pot of regional influences. Texas born and raised on the Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, and Charlie Daniels Band cassettes from his parent’s collection, the Country singer/songwriter packed the deep Texas Roots of his music when he relocated to Washington state. His new homebase near the west coast of the USA added cool waves of rhythm to a natural-born Texas grit, creating a brand for his music. CJ Hooper shows the results when the hammering beat of “Burn It Down” is partnered with the chugging groove of “Yonderer” on Over Yonder, his recent release.
 
A hyper-active beat mirrors the tension that CJ Hooper sings about in “Damaged Plan” as “Hard Times” spins slowly on a wheel of raggedy rhythms. An amplified heartbeat defines the rhythms of “Rain Song” as acoustic guitar chords move alongside a thumping patter for “Looking Over Yonder” as CJ Hooper wears the skin of “The Collector”, the songman painting his musical life as a ‘collector of stories’. (by Danny McCloskey)
