7/25/2025 Buck Owens and His Buckaroos (from album Adios, Farewell, Goodbye, Good Luck, So Long (On Stage 1964 – 1974)Buck Owens and His Buckaroos (from album Adios, Farewell, Goodbye, Good Luck, So Long (On Stage 1964 – 1974) on Omnivore Recordings) (by Danny McCloskey)
All of the 78 tracks included on Adios, Farewell, Goodbye, Good Luck, So Long (On Stage 1964 – 1974) are, as the title suggests, recorded live. The album from Buck Owens and His Buckaroos captures the band in its glory years. The track listing runs chronologically by year, beginning with a performance at the Bellevue Theater in Richmond, Virginia in 1964, and closing out with a show at Nakona Sun Plaza in Tokyo, Japan in 1974. Of the multiple cuts, 75 have never been issued on CD, with 25 tracks unreleased in the United States, and an additional 20 more not issued anywhere in the world. The collection also contains a 56-page book featuring photos and an extensive essay from Grammy-nominated writer/producer Scott B. Bomar. The tunes were collected from the recently discovered The Exciting Sounds of Buck Owens and His Buckaroos Live from Richmond, Virginia, 1964, as well as culled from the international releases Buck Owens’ Show in Japan, Live in New Zealand, and Buck Owens’ Show “Live” at The Sydney Opera House. Cuts are additionally featured from US Top 10 albums The Buck Owens Show–Big in Vegas and Live at The Nugget. More audio seduction comes from the never before heard recordings from Buck Owens and His Buckaroos playing live sets from Macys 7th Avenue store in 1967, the 1973 Buck Owens Golf Tournament Dinner, and a 1973 Toys for Tots benefit at the Bakersfield Civic Auditorium. The song cycle kicks off with a 1964 performance of the Buck Owens hit “Act Naturally” and follows with 19 additional tracks from the Bellevue Theater show, ending the performance with a cover of The Beatles “Twist and Shout”. Adios, Farewell, Goodbye, Good Luck, So Long (On Stage 1964 – 1974) offers excellent audio quality for the performances, with the Macy’s full set from 1967 showing a little age in the sound. The album steps back in time to showcase a massive talent at the peak of his success, backed by a road-polished band as it relives live performances from Buck Owens and His Buckaroos.
