Liam Duncan aka Boy Golden has dropped a record of cool. His latest, Best of Our Possible Lives, finds the Canadien Indie Alt Country Rocker dude laying down a blast of goodness in a laidback sonic package; a mellow offering that skips along at its own pace loaded with very direct and matter of fact observations. Those opinions kick in early via the opening track “Suffer” as Boy Golden sings for the universal many claiming ‘prices go up and they don’t come down’ while also stating ‘I wanna know where my money went’. He also speaks for some of his neighbors to the South as he critiques leadership choices; a lot is suffering is discussed in that album opener. Things remain casual and hip. “New Orleans” is a quiet cut with hushed harmonies, “Chickadee” is a dreamy road cut, and “Cowboy Dreams” carries a Morphine-inspired pulse. The tracks is also one of two cuts where Boy Golden is joined by Cat Clyde, the other cut the fabulous “Moontan” in all its Jazzy and Soulful glory. “Eyes” is late-night dreamy, “You Got It” is Garage Rock Blues and the closing, title-track, “Best of Our Possible Lives”, is casual Roots Funk of a love song when he sings ‘in the best of our possible lives, you’re by my side’. The whole thing is quite easy-going, a record of casual cool.
