Classify her into any genre and you’ve got yourself a heck-of-a frontwoman within any sound specific outfit. She can croon Country or a Pop ballad while also having that ability to front a Rock band of the Punk, Garage Rock, or Noise variety. Fortunately for music fans that seek more than a single-genre trick pony, they’ve got the latest from Beth Lee, Hardly Matters, a release where you’ll find Beth Lee banging out a bunch of cuts reflective of the cool kids record collection, from Garage Rockers to trippy ballads and into songs that cry back to the 1980’s. There’s the steady Rock of the opener in “Another Day”, a cut that requires handclaps and signing along from listeners. “Blue Skies” has a soulful vibe within a Pop world sparkling with punchy Psychedelic guitar, “I’ve Tried” is a sweet and slow ballad with light hints of guitar jangle, and Beth Lee bangs out a stomper in “Only You”. It’s a track with celebratory chimes and great harmonies, that are all from Beth, as she singles out the one person that can break her heart. The title track has doles out that aforementioned 80’s sound and has perfectly placed hand-claps while the Hardly Matters closer, “Umbrella”, is one lone guitar, a few delicately placed chimes, and Beth Lee’s vocals; it’s killer. Beth Lee writes songs that are heartbreaking and hopeful. Rough around the edges Pop music, her scratchy but strong vocals and an all-around loose vibe will make this a staple of left of the dial radio, which we know is where the good stuff lives.
