BB & The Bullets (from the album High Tide

BB & The Bullets (from the album High Tide available on Nixon Street Recordings/Rock’n’Hall Records) (by Danny McCloskey)

The trio of Blues Rock musicians that pound out a mighty beat on their recent release, High Tide, call Whanganui, New Zealand home. Hard-driving beats are the power structure on High Tide when BB & the Bullets hammer out advice with “Letting Go” while they cruise on a highway song for “Something in the Water”. The band tells the tale of “Little Fishes” on a determined strut, layer notes and beats as a foundation for “Big Boot Running”, and claim “I Can Tell” on reverb-drenches notes.
Recording in Brian Baker (BB) Studios, the head honcho of the facility leads BB & The Bullets with over twenty years of production to his credit as he produces High Tide. Balancing originals tunes with covers sunk deep into the Blues, BB & The Bullets nod to The Beatles with “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”, deliver a heavy beat for the message found in the Booker T. Jones/William Bell penned tune, “Born Under a Bad Sign”, fast-track the groove for Rufus Thomas’ “Walking the Dog”, and stay true to origins for B.B. King’s “The Thrill is Gone”. The High Tide title track stomps into a story the shows humans battling nature as BB & The Bullets push the pedal to the floor with the instrumental “Brian’s Boogie” and count “Seven Ways to Sin”.
