Alice Howe & Freebo (from the album Alice Howe & Freebo Live

Alice Howe & Freebo (from the album Alice Howe & Freebo Live available on Know Howe Music/Bassline Music) (by Danny McCloskey)
Joined by legendary bassist Freebo, Alice Howe delivers the aptly titled Alice Howe & Freebo Live. Opening the album with her signature tune “Twilight”, Alice Howe is a searcher looking for answers, a wanderer on the eternal journey to find life’s purpose. The Blues of “Travelin’ Soul” puts politics into the corporate takeover of America while the pair offer Freebo compositions, “She Loves Her Dog More Than Me”, “If Not Now When”, and “She’s My Personal GPS”. Starting off as a member of Philadelphia local heroes, Edison Electric Band, in the late 1960’s, Freebo became an in-demand sessions and touring musician, playing with Bonnie Raitt (1971-1979) and David Lee Roth, and performing with a long list of A-listers, including Ringo Starr, John Mayall, Dr. John, CSN, Willy DeVille, and Kate & Ann McGarrigle. His bass compliments the guitar of Alice Howe perfectly.
Delivering some covers, Alice Howe & Freebo Live rides a funky groove when Freebo steps up to the microphone for Little Feat/Lowell George’s “Sailin’ Shoes”. Alice Howe and Freebo slow Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You” to a forlorn, soul-bearing story as they exit the album dueting on the John Prine song/Bonnie Raitt hit, “Angel from Montgomery”.
