Re-imagining Heavy Metal cuts into an Outlaw Country groove, Alex Williams collects tracks from multiple artists to deliver Space Brain, his recent release. A slow sway carries Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades” while desert breezes hold the dark chords in Judas Priest’s “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming”. Space Brain is a love letter to Hard Rock, masterfully recreated on the equally hammering beats that accompany the same spit and snarl vocal delivery. Tributing Ozzy prior to his departure from this all-too-mortal coil, Alex Williams opens Space Brain with fellow Outlaw Country citizen Cody Jinks as the pair join forces with “Flyin’ High Again”. The album swaggers like a Southern Rock anthem when Alex Williams channels Guns’n’Roses while riding “Night Train”, namechecking the Space Brain album title. The beat is the clip-clop of horse hooves when Alex Williams rides the range in Motley Crue’s “Wild Side” as the hum of acoustics is a constant presence for Skid Row’s “Youth Gone Wild” while bright notes surf the hard chord current for Ratt’s “Round and Round” and an assured stride carries Poison’s “Look What the Cat Dragged In”. Covering Cinderella, Alex Williams is joined by the band’s Tom Keifer for “Nobody’s Fool” as he hops on a powerful beat pounding the way towards the exit of Space Brain, closing out the album with Tesla’s “Getting’ Better”.
