Beginning with a dramatic punch of hammering beats, guitars that range from distorted power chords to chiming acoustics, and the story of Ophiuchus, Afton Wolfe presents the title track to his recent release as his opening tune for the album. The constellation of Ophiuchus is often represented as a man holding a snake. Astrological divisions left Ophiuchus at number thirteen on the sign-up sheet for Zodiac signs, and the decision to include only twelve left the constellation on the cutting room floor. While the dynamics of the inner-workings of the Zodiac are a tough act to follow, Afton Wolfe, his words, and his music are up to the challenge.
 
A somber stride walks across the dark textures of “Winter Comes for Mary” as an assured beat supports the advice in “Forgive Yourself”. A rhythmic rumble creates a path for “One Million Children” while a bright melody sparkles as it supports the night visions of “Dream Song”. Discussing the “Rules of War”, Afton Wolfe dances along the patter of Gypsy Jazz as he gazes above to the stars looking for signs in “Last King of the Blues”. Stretching out over background dreamscape texture Ophiuchusoffers night observations on “Ascetic Sleep Songs No. 4” and floats on the drifting tones of the instrumental “Sphere Shift” as Afton Wolfe draws the line in “I Deserve to Be Forgiven”, walks “Crooked Roads”, and exits the album presenting the gift of an “Invocation”.
