Alt Root Weekly Top Ten 08/27/2025

Picture
More than an album title, Safe, Sensible and Sane is a mantra for our times, perhaps even a line to scrawl on our bathroom mirror as a daily reminder that our insides are just as important as brushing our teeth and combing our hair. That is the title for the upcoming (10-17-25) release from Steve Martin and Alison Brown. For the first single from the album, the pair offer the microphone to Jackson Browne and Jeff Hanna for “Dear Time”, as they address an open letter to the clock on the wall and phone screen that tick, tick, tick without any sound to let us know that we are moving through life at a rapid rate. The tune lands in the #1 spot on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday August 27, 2025 joining new music from The Lone Bellow as they speak to the “Common Folk” on a new single released in preparation for their upcoming tour, the band offering a motive for the tune saying ‘we’ve always been drawn to the kind of everyday heroes we don’t celebrate enough - the ones who show up, help others, and never ask for credit’. The Third Mind is a collective of LA’s A-list musicians, capably led by Dave Alvin, and they make the chart singing the about “Reno, Nevada” with a track from their upcoming (09-19-25) release, Right Now!, recorded live over four days at 64 Sound Recording Studio in Los Angeles, CA. Blackberry Smoke are on board for an upcoming (10-24-25) collection, Can’t Get Enough: A Tribute to Bad Company, joining the legendary band for a cover of their hit, “Run with the Pack”. Robbie Fulks has a new album ready to launch, Now Then (due 09-05-25), and makes this week’s list with “Workin’ No More Blues” alongside Pat Carter, frontman for Berlin, Germany-based band Rodeo FM, making the chart with “Taste of Sand” from his solo debut, Love in the Time of Capitalism. Alexa Rose returns with “Where the Magic Lives” from the upcoming (10-31-25) Atmosphere, Autumn Hollow sing of “The Great Dying”, and Ben Gage is “Lookin’ for a Devil”. Closing out the week, Paul Benjaman fronts The Church Studio, the house band at Leon Russell’s legendary Church Studio, aka the Sanctuary of Sound, with “Tulsa Time” on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday August 27, 2025.
