Alt Root Weekly Top Ten 08/20/2025

Picture
Singing a Folk song from the woman with the torch standing tall on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, Rising Appalachia offers “Lady Liberty”. Sung from view of her own stone eyes, Rising Appalachia gave the background of the song, band member Chloe Smith stating that ‘”Lady Liberty” is a Folk song from the perspective of the statue herself, speaking to the protection of immigrants and refugees. We imagined what the physical and poetic symbol of liberty may want to sing if she herself were given the chance. While we witness ongoing destruction of colonialism, genocide, climate migration, and extreme nationalism, we question what we’ve become in relation to the original promise of the United States as a refuge for liberty’. Backing the track with their patented brand of Appalachian Folk and Global Roots Music, Rising Appalachia land in the #1 spot for the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday August 20, 2025 alongside new music from St. Paul & The Broken Bones with “Fall Moon”, a cut from their upcoming (10-10-25) self-titled release. The Infamous Stringdusters announce their upcoming (January 2026) album 20/20 (which celebrates their 20th album release) with a stomping first single, “Working Man’s Blues”, while Bad Temper Joe revisits the Willie Dixon-authored, Howlin’ Wolf hit (1960) “Spoonful”. Following a career that has spanned two decades, Rose’s Pawn Shop bid “Fare the Well” on the first single from their upcoming (early 2026) release American Seams as The Pleasures offer the title track to their recent release, Enemy of My Enemy and Joelton Mayfield sings of “Turpentine (You Know the One)” from his upcoming (10-24-25) Bloodshot Records release, Crowd Pleaser. The Steel Wheels have a new single, “Easy”, which makes the chart with The Name Droppers shouting the praises of “Cool Blue Shoes” and Midnight Sky offering advice with “Hearts Are Wild” on the weekly Top Ten for Wednesday August 20, 2025.
